| UNITED SIKHS Newest Human Rights Intern to Study Conflict Resolution in Jerusalem This Summer |
| Manjot Singh isn't your average college sophomore. As a student of International Relations at Suffolk University in Boston, Manjot already has years of experience in conflict-resolution with several prominent grassroots organizations, like Operation Groundswell and Amnesty International. |
| With the goal of bringing the voice of marginalized groups to the forefront of international politics, Manjot has also helped organize a number of human rights awareness events on her college campus, including a Denim Day event and a women's equality forum. |
| She's even lobbied The House and Senate at the U.S. Capitol – and all before the age of 19. It is this same passion that led Manjot to join UNITED SIKHS as a junior fellow of International Civil & Human Rights Advocacy (ICHRA) programs. Through this work, she will be traveling to Jerusalem this summer, July 14--Aug. 17, to study the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. |
| "I know I possess the abilities to make changes in my community and government," Manjot said. "The best way I can do this is by helping people on the ground and working to understand what they're experiencing first-hand." |
| To support this effort, UNITED SIKHS is partnering with Manjot to raise funds for her upcoming trip. As Manjot studies of the pulse of the people in the Middle East, who are actually facing the brunt of human rights violations, she plans to use her findings to arrive at an acceptable diplomatic solution to the ongoing conflict. |
| Being enthusiastic about working with the youth, Manjot believes that the findings from her research could also be beneficial in changing the biased outlook often projected by the mainstream media about issues concerning the Middle East at-large. |
| "As for advocating for the perspectives of Israelis and Palestinians in the United States, let me tell you of two of my favorite hobbies - volunteering and advocating for human rights!" Manjot exclaimed. |
| UNITED SIKHS feels the decision taken by Manjot will encourage more college students to take up similar activities and contribute towards safe-guarding human rights. She will be providing regular updates on her studies from the field as a UNITED SIKHS social media ambassador to raise further awareness using the hashtag #ManjotsTriptoJerusalem. |
