2014 UNITED SIKHS' Sikh Aid Projects Highlights:

With over 20 disaster relief assistance projects across the globe from the Asian Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, the South Asian Earthquake in India and Pakistan, Typhoon in the Philippines, the Indonesian Earthquake, and the floods in Kashmir, UNITED SIKHS is humbled to announce we have fed thousands and built houses in these areas. Your tax-deductible donation has helped us to assist thousands of families facing disaster, destruction, and health issues globally.

The UNITED SIKHS Haiyan Relief team continued their humanitarian aid efforts in the Philippines after the country was hit by one of the most deadly typhoons in 2013.

With your generous donations and support the team was able to do the following in 2014 :

- Hand over the first 8 houses to Typhoon Haiyan survivors in the village Crossing Lais, Lais, Binuntucan and Panay Island on January 17th 2014.
- Our team consulted with engineers and decided to proceed to build concrete and plywood houses with solid base. This new type of homes will last up to level 4 typhoon.
- February 6th UNITED SIKHS handed over 18 new homes.
- March 10th marked the day when 25 more homes were handed over to the typhoon affected families in Crossing Lais village, Philippines.
- The team delivered 5kg of food aid including rice, canned food, milk, coffee, sugar and iodized salt to thousands of families during relief mission.
- Since November 2013 through to March 2014 a total of 51 homes and one church were reconstructed.

  The GurKirpa Health Network was inaugurated on 18th October 2014. There is a dire need for a hospital to be opened in the rural areas of Panjab as many families and individuals living in these villages have to travel miles just to receive basic medical treatment. The hospital is located in Panjab, District Ludhiana, and Village Dhamot.

With your help, the following has been accomplished:

- Treated over 1,000 patients, children included.
- Treated people from 22 surrounding villages.
- Conducted two medical camps
- Open from 9am – 6pm (including Sunday’s).
- Opened an Out Patient Department facility where we deliver ECG, X-rays, blood pressure check-ups, injectables, homoeopathy medicines, as well as treating serious and minor accidental cases.
- The hospital receives 25-30 patients a day.

On 10thSeptember 2014 a state of emergency was declared in Kashmir as the areas of Jammu, Srinagar, Pulwama, Shopian and Anantnag battled one of the worst floods in decades. Over a million people have been affected by the catastrophic floods, the worst the state has seen in 60 years.

Since September your generous donations and support has enabled the UNITED SIKHS team to do the following:

- Delivered relief kits which consisted of mattresses, quilts,thermals, shawls and sweaters to over 400 families.
- Distributed over 2500 blankets to locals who lost everything.
- Reached 15 worst hit areas in Srinagar.
- Delivered food and water aid by boat.
- Provided 26 different types of medicine.

  Malaysia 2014- Six valiant walkers walked 300km to raise awareness, funds and goodwill for UNITED SIKHS humanitarian aid projects for underprivileged children all over the world, as well as raising funds for the Gurpuri Foundation, which cares for many orphans and children in need in South East Asia. The team walked for 8 days and 7 nights with around 10 hours of walking a day from Singapore to Malaysia.

Canada- 25thNovember 2014, Vancouver, the Good Will Walk against Violence was organized by UNITED SIKHS last month in response to the surge in violence in the Middle East and unrest in the Ukraine in the summer.For Sikhs, this year marked the 30thanniversary of two violent attacks on its people including the 1984 attack on the Sikh sanctum sanctorum Darbar Sahib, Amritsar.
