Panay Island, Philippines- On January 17th, 2013, the UNITED SIKHS Haiyan Relief Team officially handed over the first eight houses to the Typhoon Haiyan Survivors in the village Crossing Lais, Binuntucan, Panay Island. The Vice Governor, Esteban Evan 'Nonoy' B. Contreras, of Capiz, Panay Island, Philippines joined in the presentation of the homes to the new owners.

Our team consulted with engineers and decided to proceed to build concrete and plywood houses with solid base. This new type of homes will last up to level 4 typhoon. The bamboo houses would not have lasted another typhoon. Click here for a breakdown of materials. The Governor of Capiz, Panay Island stated, "This has never been done by any NGO here and we are proud to say that only UNITED SIKHS are making proper homes for the village people of Panay today."

“This was an amazing moment for the relief team on this successful completion of the first few homes and a proud day for UNITED SIKHS Haiyan Relief Efforts! We thank all our supporters, donors and volunteers who made this happen.” said Gurvinder Singh, Director of UNITED SIKHS AID.

Unanimously, all survivors have conveyed their deepest gratitude to our donors for bringing their lives back together one step at a time. The people affected by the devastating typhoon were happy and felt blessed when houses were handed over. They have been living in temporary shelters since November 8, 2013, when Typhoon Haiyan hit the Island.
