New York, NY
The Tuesday, June 22, 2021, Primary Elections in New York City will determine who will be the official Democratic and Republican candidates who will face each other on Election Day on November 2, 2021.
UNITED SIKHS has coordinated “meet and greet events” in Richmond Hill, Queens with some of the candidates. The community can ask them questions about why they are running.  For information about when these meetings will take place, please contact us at contact@unitedsikhs.org.
The deadline to register to vote in the June 22, 2021 primary elections is Friday, May 28, 2021.  If you are not already registered, you can register by mail, in person, or online.  You can get information about eligibility to vote here and about how and where to register to vote here
Do you need help registering to vote?  UNITED SIKHS can help.  Please contact us for assistance.
Primary Voting Information
Primary Election Day for Democratic and Republican voters is Tuesday, June 22nd from 6am to 9pm.  To find your voting site, enter your address here.  Early voting is also possible and begins Saturday, June 12th through Sunday, June 20th.  You can find information about when and where you can vote early here.
Who is Up for Election in the NYC Primary?
Citywide, the primary elections will determine the nominees for NYC Mayor, Public Advocate, City Comptroller, Borough President, and Members of the City Council.  Some boroughs will also vote for the nominee for District Attorney, Judges of the Civil Court, Female District Leader, Male District Leader, Delegate to the Judicial Convention, and Alternate Delegate to the Judicial Convention.  If you’d like to see what your ballot will look like prior to the election, fill in your address here and a sample will be generated.
Ranked Choice Voting
These elections will be a little different as “ranked choice” voting mechanisms are being used for the first time in NYC.  Ranked choice allows you to choose up to five (5) candidates for each political office.  Your top choice is listed as 1st choice and your next favorite is 2nd choice, up to five.  Please note that you can only vote within your political party.  You cannot rank 1st Choice from one political party and your 2nd Choice from a different political party.  There are currently 15 candidates running for NYC Mayor.  If you are registered as a Republican, you can vote for those candidates in order of preference.  If you are registered as a Democrat, you can fill up to five Democratic candidates in order of preference.  Again, you do not have to rank all candidates.  You can also write-in a person’s name that is not listed.
To learn more about how ranked choice voting works, please see the video on the NYC Board of Elections site and the graphic created by The New York Times
Are you registered to vote?  You can find out if you are registered here or here.  If you do not register to vote by the May 28, 2021 deadline, you can still register to vote for the general elections on November 2, 2021 as long as you register at least 25 days before Election Day on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.
YOUR VOTE IS IMPORTANT!  YOUR VOTE COUNTS!
