COVID-19 Test and Tracing
The unprecedented Covid -19 geographic spread of the current surge makes it dangerous, with experts warning it could lead to dire shortages of medical staff and supplies. Already, hospitals are reporting shortfalls of basic drugs needed to treat covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. To support our healthcare system and to make sure that everyone has access to Covid-19 testing, UNITED SIKHS has initiated a free COVID-19 testing program by partnering with New York Health + Hospital.

NYCHH trained technicians to provide COVID-19 self-swab tests and instruction to New Yorkers, as part of theย NYC Test & Trace Corps. Since the immigrant population has a language barrier, the UNITED SIKHS team is present to help with translating the instructions. We also provide help in creating email accounts as that is one of the requirements to get tested.
There is no registration required, participants can walk directly into a Covid-19 testing site. More than 100 nasal-swab tests are available on a daily basis at individual sites. Test reports are available in 48 hours and shared via email.
Individuals who test positive are able to take advantage of various services provided byย NY city.ย Depending on the individual needs of patients, we also provide groceries or cookedย meals. UNITED SIKHS can help patients secure insurance from the NYC Marketplace via their Assisterย Navigator program, which helps New Yorkers select health insurance plans. Patients can enroll in theย NYC Careย health program regardless of immigration status.
UNITED SIKHS want to ensure that each New Yorker is tested for Covid-19 and gets suitable health benefits. Across America, there are more than 10.6 million individuals affected by this pandemic. UNITED SIKHS targets to provide testing facilities near homes and workplaces of disadvantaged populations, ensuring that interfaith and immigrant communitiesโoften underserved and marginalizedโhave access to reliable coronavirus testing, tracing, andย virus education.
