Tonight, at 5:30 pm, the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool will be illuminated with four hundred lights. Each light represents 1,000 Americans who have died of Covid 19. This memorial is part of President Biden’s inauguration events and he and Vice-President Harris will speak at the memorial to honor the lives lost to the Covid-19 coronavirus. Similar memorial ceremonies will be held around the country.
In New York, the Empire State Building will be illuminated in red lights to represent “the heartbeat of America.” In New Orleans, white flags will be placed around Lafayette Square. In Seattle, the Friendship Bell in the Kobe Bell Courtyard center will be rung 40 times. Nationwide, people will be ringing bells and lighting candles and placing them in their windows to remember those who died.
