UNITED SIKHS strongly condemns the aggressive behavior of pro-India protestors who attacked the Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha in Malton (Brampton, Ontario, Canada), November 3, 2024. Such acts of violence are not only deeply troubling but also constitute a violation of the right to peaceful assembly and protest.

The attack on the gurdwara, where several hundred protestors, many masked and wielding weapons, attempted to storm the premises, is a blatant disregard for the principles of peaceful protest and assembly. These actions have caused significant distress and directed disrespect towards the Sikh community, who were attending a place of worship and their right to peaceful assembly.

UNITED SIKHS calls for immediate action to be taken against those responsible for these violent acts. We urge the Canadian authorities to ensure that justice is served and that such incidents are never repeated. The right to peaceably assemble is fundamentally protected under our laws, and any violation of this right must be addressed promptly and effectively.

Amidst threats against our democratic institutions and an apparent persistence of foreign influence, We  anticipate the conduct of thorough and impartial investigations on this incident, following the tenets of justice.

We acknowledge the response by the Peel Regional Police for standing in defense of what is right, despite being attacked and injured by the violence of the demonstrators.

UNITED SIKHS Canada is committed to continue advocating for the rights and safety of communities and their religious places of worship. It is imperative that all communities are able to express their views and practice their faith without fear of violence or repression.

Sukhwinder Singh

Director, UNITED SIKHS (Canada)
