UNITED SIKHS Launches Emergency Disaster Relief Effort for Nepal Following Devastating Flash Floods
NEW YORK, N.Y. | August 30, 2026
UNITED SIKHS, a United Nations affiliated international humanitarian aid and advocacy organization, is launching an emergency disaster relief effort to support survivors of the catastrophic flash floods that struck north-central Nepal on August 26, 2026.
The disaster was triggered by a glacial collapse and landslide near the Nepal-China border, sending a massive surge of water and debris down the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river valleys. The flooding has devastated communities in Nepal’s Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading districts, killing hundreds and leaving well over a thousand people missing. Entire villages have been buried under mud and debris, roads and communication lines remain cut off in the worst-hit areas, and thousands of families have been displaced.
UNITED SIKHS’ relief effort will focus on:
- Emergency food and clean water distribution to displaced families and survivors in affected districts
- Medical aid and first-response support in coordination with local health authorities
- Shelter materials and essential supplies, including blankets, hygiene kits, and clothing
- Search and recovery support working alongside local and national relief agencies
- Long-term rebuilding assistance for families who have lost their homes and livelihoods
UNITED SIKHS is coordinating with local volunteers, community organizations, and government agencies on the ground in Nepal to identify the areas of greatest need and ensure aid reaches the most vulnerable communities as quickly as possible. The organization’s disaster relief teams have a long history of rapid response to natural disasters worldwide, guided by the Sikh tradition of seva.
