UNITED SIKHS Serves 2,000 Meals Daily to Flood Survivors and Frontline Responders in Nuwakot, Nepal, as Community Requests for Urgent Construction of Shelters for the Displaced Families

UNITED SIKHS volunteers continue to run daily langar (community kitchen) operations for families displaced by the devastating floods that struck Nepal’s Bhotekoshi river valley, providing complete meals, twice daily to some of the hardest-hit communities in Nuwakot district.
At a relief site in Bidur Municipality, UNITED SIKHS volunteers are preparing and distributing culturally-compliant meals to flood-affected residents, including a significant number of children and elderly survivors who lost their homes in the disaster. Every day, adults and elderly residents alike are receiving nutritious, freshly prepared meals, a small but vital source of stability amid the upheaval. Other than served meals, dry rations are likewise being distributed for families who wish to cook on their own.
The organization’s community kitchen has also opened its doors to the security and relief personnel supporting the response, including Nepal Army soldiers, Armed Police Force (APF) personnel, and Nepal Police officers stationed in the area. Combined with the displaced families they are serving, UNITED SIKHS volunteers are now preparing and distributing meals to an estimated 2,000 people every single day, two times daily, entirely through donor support and volunteer labor.
Urgent Appeal: 65 Homes Needed for Displaced Families
While the daily langar continues to meet immediate food needs, UNITED SIKHS is shifting focus toward long-term recovery for families who have lost everything in the floods. We are urgently seeking support to construct 65 temporary shelters, offering displaced residents a safe space beyond evacuation camps and a chance to begin rebuilding their lives. This effort marks the critical first step, with the second phase dedicated to constructing permanent homes that will restore stability for flood‑affected families.
