“I can’t thank UNITED SIKHS enough for organizing this program. I am the sole earner in my family of four and the skills learnt during this program will help me earn a better income,” says Gurpreet Kaur, one of the participants of UNITED SIKHS’ 40-day Skill Development Program. |
UNITED SIKHS’ Retd. Col. Manmohan Singh and Amritpal Singh were approached by MSME officials who urged us to take up the responsibility of organizing a 40-day government aided workshop on skill development for women in rural areas. Amritpal Singh, who also coordinates UNITED SIKHS’ GurKirpa Health Network, a hospital in the area that provides high quality medical services to 700-1,200 patients every month, agreed to it. |
After taking approval from the village Sarpanch Pargat Singh Ji, the program started with a batch of 30 women who are being taught garment manufacturing skills by Sukhwinder Kaur, a trainer appointed by MSME. |
At the end of this 40-day program, an exhibition will be held at the village where garments made by these women will be displayed. Also, a small session will be conducted on the day by local banks where they will guide these women about loan opportunities for starting a business. |
“We aim at empowering these women of rural areas so that they can earn better. Empowering a woman means empowering her entire family. We thank Ik Oankar and MSME for giving us this opportunity,” said Col. Manmohan Singh Scout, Director UNITED SIKHS (India). |
