Family should be let into long-term care facilities
Now is the time to allow one essential family caregiver to be given permission to see their loved one living in a long-term care facility. Sadly, it’s already too late for some people living in facilities who have passed away without the ability to have the love and support of a family member in their last days.
More than 30 states have already opened of partially opened for visitation because they have seen the devastating effects this isolation and separation is having on the facility residents, the ones we are trying to protect.
I applaud the governor for forming a task force and addressing this issue, and I urge the task force to come up with terms as soon as possible.
My husband with early-onset dementia has suffered long enough these past five months since I have seen him in person. He doesn’t need another FaceTime call that confuses him. He needs to see me in the flesh. I need to be there in person to love and support him.
