NEW YORK, NY
UNITED SIKHS endorses the civil rights principles for Covid-19 vaccine development and distribution, prepared by the Leadership Conference, a premier Civil and Human rights coalition, in Washington DC, and signed by more than fifty civil rights organizations. “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. The principles for Covid-19 vaccine development and distribution are a manifestation of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 1”, said Gurvinder Singh, International Director for Humanitarian Aid and Development. “We have also partnered with the New York Health + Hospitals (NYCHH) to provide free Covid-19 testing camps at places of worship and food pantries under the NYC Mayor Bill Blasio’s public health initiative”, said Inderjit Singh, community relations manager at UNITED SIKHS.
The details of the upcoming Free Covid-19 Testing in New York City are:
Sunday, December 20th, 2020 | 10:30 AM – 3:00 PM | Gurdwara The Sikh Cultural Society Inc (9530 118th St, South Richmond Hill, NY 11419)
Gurvinder added, “The new framework for vaccine development and distribution serves as a guide to other states and countries- providing transparency in the process of development, approval, and testing of vaccines.” Guidance on robust data collection, representation, and education of diverse communities, most affected by the virus while being treated with dignity and the aim to protect the health, livelihood, and well-being of all is a part of the framework. The vaccine should be available to all communities for free and without concern for their immigration status. The data obtained should be safeguarded from immigration enforcement or other negative actions impacting any person seeking vaccination.
The United States now has more than 17 Million confirmed Coronavirus cases, which amplify the urgency to increase the number of Covid testing centers.
UNITED SIKHS also actively supports calls for a national stimulus package that includes providing funding to assist those affected by COVID-19.
We also help New Yorkers in finding the right health insurance plan, irrespective of their immigration status. Call +1 718 441 6644 or write to ceed-usa@unitedsikhs.org for assistance.
We do this with the support of our donors and supporters. Please donate.
