Invitation to “Interfaith Diwan and Dinner: Come Learn with the Sikh Community”
Posted in CEED

Event Date: Thursday, November 17th
Location: Manhattan Sikh Center, 104 E. 30th St. (b/w Park and Lexington)
Time: 7 pm onwards

New York, NY: In collaboration with PrepareNY, the Manhattan Sikh Center, the Faiths Act Fellowship and The Tony Blair Faith Foundation, UNITED SIKHS invites you to an interfaith diwan. The door is always open to non-Sikhs to join in Sikhs’ activities and prayer, but on November 17th special programming will accompany the traditional service so that Sikhs and non-Sikhs can learn together.

Join us for an introduction to Sikhi at a diwan, a service that includes a reading of the sacred text (the Guru Granth Sahib), singing and praying, and a Q&A session during langar, a community meal part central to the Sikh tradition of equality and service.

The Thursday evening diwan service will be an ideal way to experience the essence of the Sikh tradition: equality, service, and deep love of God. Sri Guru Nanak Sahib Ji founded the Sikh way of life in the fifteenth century to enlighten members of all faiths to recognize the human race as one. Guru Nanak was a revolutionary teacher; his teachings that women and men were equal, that caste was unimportant, and that there are many paths to the One God were truly transformative ideas. Please come with an open mind, empty stomach, and all your questions about Sikh spiritual practice.

Refreshments will be served before Diwan and the langar meal will be served afterwards.

If you belong to the Sikh faith, we encourage you to share your tradition and beliefs with others throughout the evening. We want the event to be filled with interaction and dialogue.

RSVP, if possible. Door is open to walk-ins.
