New York: A California man who’s been unlawfully imprisoned overseas, woke up one step closer to freedom today – but his fate still hangs in the balance. |
One week after human rights groups stepped up their fight to bring home Bhai Resham Singh, the courts in New Delhi, India agreed to grant him bail. Bhai Resham Singh was granted bail under the condition that he will be present for his upcoming trial, which attorneys say could take up to several months to begin. |
The court has yet to make a decision on whether or not to return Resham Singh’s passport to him. Lawyers familiar with his case say it can take a minimum of 4 months to complete just the technical formalities that must be adhered to before a trial is ever put forth. |
“He’s a father, a religious leader and a pillar in his community, yet Resham Singh is being treated as though he is a terrorist by the Indian authorities. Its unconscionable, and we won’t stop fighting until he’s home,” Wanda Sanchez Day, Esq, National Legal Director for the UNITED SIKHS explained. |
Please sign the White House Petition and help procure Resham Singh’s release and support Sikh religious freedom. |
