Kashmir is battling one of the worst floods it has seen in decades. The death toll is increasing day-by-day and thousands of vulnerable people are still stranded and without any form of food, or water.
The UNITED SIKHS Kashmir Relief team will carry out work in the areas where aid is most critically needed, at the moment they are working in Srinagar, one of the worst affected. Other areas includes include Pulwama, Shopian and Anantnah, which, at the moment, have only become accessible via army helicopters. As conditions slowly continue to improve, the UNITED SIKHS Relief team will begin delivering aid into those areas too. Currently the team is delivering 2100 blankets and medicine.
Many of those who have been rescued from Srinagar and surrounding towns have been placed at safety camps, one being the Gurdwara Shaheed Bunga, where langar is being served 3-4 times a day to all victims, Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs.
The need for aid is extremely critical. Our ground volunteers in Srinagar have also made clear that the number of children under the age of two is very high, and food is limited. These children need food in order to survive the wrath of the floods.
Our work has only just begun. We want to bring back a sense of normality, sustainability and community within in Kashmir and UNITED SIKHS asks it supporters for donations in order to provide essential items that many people are without.
Our ground team has made an assessment of items which are urgently needed.
