The advocacy division of UNITED SIKHS has reached out to the Prime Minister of Canada. Farmers in India are enduring government-initiated violence, intimidation through arrests on made-up charges and police harassment for several months now. The Indian government has also deployed cell phone jammers, cut internet services and barricaded the protest sites in an attempt to deprive the protestors of food and water.
The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL), Canadian Union of Postal Workers, BC Federation of Labour, Health Sciences Association of British Columbia are some of the Canadian organizations that have spoken out in support of the farmers. This is in addition to several hundred protests that Canadians continue to organize in solidarity with the farmworkers.
We ask the Canadian government to listen to Canadians from all backgrounds and professions and take decisive action in support of farmers in India.
