Kathmandu, Nepal – Nepal fell victim to a powerful and devastating earthquake on April 25th. Since then more than 5,000 people are now known to have died, thousands more injured and left homeless – struggling to survive out in the open. The United Nations has estimated that eight million people in 39 districts have been affected by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake. The UNITED SIKHS Nepal Relief team consisting of Komal JB Singh (Kashmir), Amanjot Singh (Patiala), Sabin Dhungel (Kathmandu) and Gurvesh Singh (Kathmandu) are now at ground zero. Our medical team of doctors will arrive by Friday equipped with medical supplies to assist the injured. We have been informed by locals that some villages in the outskirts have still not been reached, therefore our team will be assessing some of the worst hit areas where no help or aid has been delivered as of yet. The temperatures are unseasonably cold and many thousands of families have lost everything apart from the clothes on their backs. Our team has been informed that hospitals are lacking supplies and capacity to treat all minor and major injuries and have limited functional operating theatres. Patients are staying in makeshift shelters with poor sanitation conditions.
