Empowering Lives: Stories from Project Vaapsi

Why Support Matters

Embarking on the journey to quit drugs is a challenging process. The VAAPSI program recognizes the crucial role that support plays in achieving successful recovery. Here are some key reasons why support is essential:

Emotional Support

Quitting drugs is emotionally taxing. Our support system offers reassurance, understanding, and encouragement during the tough moments.

Motivation and Encouragement

Friends, family, or peers provide motivation and positive reinforcement, helping individuals stay focused on their goal of quitting drugs.

Responsibility

Accountability is key to success. Knowing that others are aware of the goal to quit drugs fosters a sense of responsibility, deterring individuals from relapsing.

Social Empowerment

Addiction often leads to social isolation. Our support helps individuals reconnect with others, reducing loneliness and providing a sense of belonging.

Ready to Walk the Path of Recovery?

Here’s What to Expect

Step 1 : Medical

Your assigned VAAPSI buddy will introduce themselves and arrange a visit to the Surrey Substance Abuse Rapid Clinic. This clinic visit involves a drug test, detailed history assessment, and the creation of a case file. Medical treatment, including prescriptions, will be initiated based on the assessment.

Step 2 : Meditation

Meditation, specifically Naam Simran, plays a vital role in reducing stress and anxiety—common triggers for substance abuse. Your buddy will coordinate meditation classes, ensuring they align with your schedule and preferences.

Step 3 : Physical Exercise

Engage in activities like Gatka, Horseback Riding, Mixed Martial Arts, Wrestling, and Hiking. These activities contribute to overall well-being and act as positive distractions from cravings.

Step 4 : Active Rehabilitation

Build a routine and plan for job procurement with your buddy’s guidance. Utilizing UNITED SIKHS connections, necessary certificates for job opportunities will be obtained, ensuring a smooth transition to employment post-program completion.

The 6-Week Program

After successfully completing the program, follow-up check-ins will occur over calls or coffee meetings. For the first two months, these check-ins will be bi-weekly, transitioning to monthly thereafter. Our ultimate goal is to foster successful recoveries, with participants becoming buddies for new patients.
