HIGHLIGHTS:

  • We urge all members of the Sikh community to attend the Senate hearing on Wednesday, September 19th in the Dirksen Senate Office Building Room 226.

  • In this fight, Sikhs are asking for a separate category for counting the increasing attacks on them.

  • UNITED SIKHS has been asked to submit  a written testimony by Sentor Durbin’s office

Washington DC: Senator Dick Durbin, chairman of the Senate subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Human Rights, and also an Assistant Majority Leader, will lead this monumental hearing. This hearing comes in wake of and in response to the Oak Creek Gurdwara shooting. Using testimony from the Justice Department, Homeland Security, the FBI, as well as outside experts, the committee will examine recent threats posed by extremist hate groups, hate crimes and the government’s response in these matters. It is vital that representatives of the Sikh community attend this hearing and demonstrate support, solidarity, and the personal interest our community holds regarding hate crimes. The Senate hearing is an opportunity for us to voice our opinions, express our concerns, and recommend policy changes.

UNITED SIKHS appreciates all the work and dedication by Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) for summoning this hearing. A Sikh witness from Oak Creek will testify at the hearing.

Please attend this hearing and be a part of the change for the safety and betterment of our community. We cannot afford to lose any more lives to such senseless crimes.
