Sikh Summit Spotlight: Building Pathways from Community Advocacy to Law
At UNITED SIKHS, the Sikh Summit and Advocacy and Humanitarian Aid Academy (AHAA) are more than an annual gathering, they are a bridge between community voices and leadership. Each year, advocates, students, and professionals come together to engage policymakers, share lived experiences, and press for stronger civil rights protections. The Summit and AHAA are where grassroots concerns meet national decision-making, and where the next generation of Sikh leaders begin to see their place in the broader struggle for justice.
The most recent Summit held in July of last year, once again demonstrated this transformative power. Among the participants was Bipanpreet Kaur, whose journey reflects the Summit’s impact. With an undergraduate background in healthcare, her path to law has been unconventional.

The Summit revealed how diverse perspectives can enrich advocacy. By engaging directly with officials from the Department of Justice, the FBI, and elected leaders at both the state and federal level, Bipanpreet gained firsthand insight into how government institutions respond to civil rights concerns affecting Sikh Americans. These conversations underscored the urgency of addressing hate crimes, religious discrimination, and the need for stronger protections.

During breakout sessions and collaborative discussions, Bipanpreet worked alongside community leaders and fellow advocates to translate community concerns into policy language. This hands-on experience demonstrated how advocacy can move beyond awareness to tangible change. For her, it was a turning point: the realization that legal training could serve as a powerful tool to advance civil rights.
The impact extended beyond the Summit itself. Bipanpreet’s engagement helped secure a Social Justice Fellowship at Georgetown Law, a testament to how opportunities created through UNITED SIKHS can open doors to future leadership. Her story is a reminder that representation matters. As she prepares for law school, Bipanpreet emphasizes, “We need more Sikhs in law,” a broader truth her journey embodies.

The Advocacy and Humanitarian Aid Academy (AHAA) and Sikh Summit, are cornerstone initiatives of UNITED SIKHS.The program immerses participants in direct policy engagement while equipping them with the skills, training, and frameworks needed to sustain advocacy in their communities. It is both a platform for exposure to policymakers and institutions, and a training ground for building the capacity to lead, organize, and respond to humanitarian and civil rights challenges.
Looking ahead, UNITED SIKHS is preparing to welcome a new batch of participants to this year’s Sikh Summit and AHAA. Building on the momentum of last season’s gathering, the program will continue to provide young advocates, students, and professionals with opportunities to engage policymakers, sharpen their advocacy skills, and explore pathways into law and public service. We invite community members to join us in shaping the next chapter of Sikh representation in legal and civic spaces. Stay tuned, and follow our socials for details on the 2026 Summit.
At UNITED SIKHS, we are proud to spotlight Bipanpreet Kaur’s journey from the July 2025 Sikh Summit. Her experience reflects the mission of this initiative: empowering individuals to transform lived experiences into meaningful advocacy, strengthening community resilience, and inspiring the next generation of Sikh leaders to serve with dedication. The Sikh Summit is designed not only to engage policymakers but also to cultivate advocates who carry forward the spirit of selfless service into every aspect of community life.
