***HURRICANE MICHAEL ALERT***
Hurricane Michael is threatening more than 300 miles of the Gulf Coast, prompting emergency declarations in more than 100 counties. High winds are expected to cause extensive damage, including uprooting a number of oak and pine trees across the Florida’s Big Bend. |
Widespread power outages are expected as a result across the region; moderate outages are expected well into Georgia and even the parts of the Carolinas. |
As Huricane Michael continues to be a fast-moving storm, it is urgent that residents be prepared for these forecast changes and take the following preparedness steps now:Turn on your TV/radio, or check your city/county website every 30 minutes to get the latest weather updates, evacuation details and emergency instructions.If told to evacuate, do so immediately.Based on your location and community plans, make your own plans for evacuation or sheltering in place.Become familiar with your evacuation zone, the evacuation route, and shelter locations.Restock emergency preparedness kits with food and water.Gather needed supplies for 3 – 7 days. Keep in mind each person’s specific needs, including medication, plenty of water, and baby formula. Don’t forget the needs of pets.Refill gas tanks and stock vehicles with emergency supplies, including a change of clothes and hygienic supplies.Bring patio furniture and garbage cans inside; they could become dangerous in high winds.Get prescription refills, if needed.Have cash on hand. Keep important documents in a safe place |
