UNITED SIKHS introduces “Helping Families Cope with Violence and Disaster” Guide
Posted in Sikh AID

In light of the recent tragic event in Wisconsin, UNITED SIKHS felt it necessary to provide resource material, to the impacted families and the community at large, to help cope with the trauma resulting from such events.

The UNITED SIKHS emergency response team (on ground in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is composed of trained professionals who are counseling and addressing individual concerns. But there are still many who continue to struggle in silence. To address this concern and to prepare the community, in case such tragic events repeat themselves, our editorial team in collaboration with top trauma specialists have prepared this self training manual.

This guide, “Helping Families Cope with Violence and Disaster” lists all the important aspects related to helping both individuals, as well as Gurdwaras, overcome trauma resulting from natural and man-made disasters. We hope that this guide will provide some much needed help as we join and assist the community in Wisconsin during this critical and sensitive time.

UNITED SIKHS recommends that all community members and Gurdwaras go through this self training manual.

Please feel free to call UMEED (a national family resource center), launched by UNITED SIKHS with a 24 hour, toll free, helpline at 1-855-US-UMEED (1-855-878-6333). This helpline provides confidential and professional counselling to all members of the community.

Please stay in chardi kala (high spirits). Let’s be there for each other and rely on the power of naam simran (meditating using Gods name) to help us garner the strength to move forward. To have UNITED SIKHS conduct specialized training or for more information and resources please contact a UNITED SIKHS office near you or email us at umeed@unitedsikhs.org.
