UNITED SIKHS Launches Walk of Joy India
To boost our efforts for farmers, UNITED SIKHS is co-organising a 6000 km Walk of Joy India through 13 states, from Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, to Amritsar, Panjab, over 10 months, from 15th July 2017.
“The Walk of Joy India, which is being led by David Atthowe and Yusep Sukmana of Nomadic Lion and co-organised with the Better India, will help farmers of India by raising awareness about sustainable agriculture, and connecting farmers direct to consumers, and help the victims of the farmer suicide crisis by fundraising for Rescue A Family.”
Programme:
Mejindarpal Kaur, UNITED SIKHS director, Dr Harshinder Kaur, a campaigner for women’s rights and Navjot Kaur Lambi, a youth activist and a voice for the common person, will address the media. They will also hand the first monthly pension to 20 farmer suicide widows, under UNITED SIKHS’ Rescue A Family (RAF) programme that currently provides pensions to 150 other farmer suicide widows. Anju Agnihotri, a journalist of the Indian Express, will be awarded the Mai Bhago Humanitarian Award for highlighting the plight of farmer suicide widows.
