Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir (J&K)—The UNITED SIKHS GHANAIA relief team supplied building material to 36 Sikh and 17 Muslim families in Tribuni and Simbulpura villages of Tangdhar last week. “It is the inspiration of Bhai Ghanaia Ji that brought us to this valley to give indiscriminate help, seeing the same God in everyone,” said Inderjit Singh, a volunteer with the UNITED SIKHS relief team.
Davinderpal Singh and Joginder Singh of UNITED SIKHS, who are leading the relief operations in the area, accompanied the truck loaded with tin-sheets and other building material from Srinagar to reach villages along the India-Pakistan border, covering 156 kilometres of arduous hilly terrain. “It took us a while to get clearance from the Sadhna Army Post, 37 kms from Tribuni village,” said Harbhajan Singh, a member of the UNITED SIKHS relief team.
This was the second trip by volunteers to transport relief material to thousands of people devastated by the earthquake. Earlier last week UNITED SIKHS distributed tin sheets to 25 Sikh families in Uplina, Kashmir. Bhai Esher Singh, the coordinator of the relief efforts, had also distributed blankets and woollen garments to affected, villagers, a week after the earthquake hit the area.
On receiving the building material, the Muslim community In Tribuni was overwhelmed by the warm gesture on the occasion of Eid ul-Fitr. Almost every household has been affected and is feeling the pain of the enormous loss of life and property. “There is hope of rebuilding and reuniting families. We are moved by your timely help,” said Maksood Khan, 48, a resident of Tribuni village. 40 Muslim families need their houses to be rebuilt.
Dalip Singh, 57, Board member and President of the Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee helped volunteers to distribute building material to the residents of Tribuni and Simbalpura villages. Dalip Singh’s home has been converted into a Gurudwara after the earthquake destroyed several Gurudwaras including the historic Gurudwara Parampila Sahib.
