UNITED SIKHS Urges New Zealand Government to Act After Extremist Disruption of Peaceful Sikh Religious Procession
Auckland, New Zealand | January 28, 2026
UNITED SIKHS and its UK Chapter, United Humanitarian Sikh Aid, have formally raised concerns with the New Zealand High Commission in London following the disruption of a peaceful, lawfully permitted Sikh Nagar Kirtan parade in Manurewa, New Zealand, on December 20, 2025.
In a letter addressed to High Commissioner Hamish Cooper, UNITED SIKHS called on the New Zealand government to take urgent and visible action after right-wing extremists targeted the sacred Sikh religious procession, an event rooted in prayer, seva (selfless service), and unity.

The incident, which was openly recorded and circulated, has caused significant concern among Sikh families in New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and globally. Community members fear that the normalization of such acts could embolden further intimidation of minority faith groups.
UNITED SIKHS has formally urged the New Zealand government to:
- Conduct a thorough investigation and hold those responsible accountable
- Strengthen safeguards to protect minority communities and religious gatherings
- Publicly reaffirm New Zealand’s commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and interfaith harmony
UNITED SIKHS reiterated its solidarity with the Sikh community in New Zealand and emphasized that this issue transcends borders.

UNITED SIKHS will continue to engage international stakeholders and advocate for the dignity, safety, and civil liberties of all communities.
