Protect Childhood: Take a Stand
On June 12, the world comes together to observe the World Day Against Child Labor – a global call to protect the rights and dignity of every child. For UNITED SIKHS, this day powerfully reinforces our shared responsibility to uphold the welfare of all, including children.
UNITED SIKHS, through its International Civil and Human Rights Advocacy (ICHRA) and the Community Empowerment and Education (CEED) Program, has long stood on the front lines of the global fight to end child labor. Through a blend of grassroots action, humanitarian aid, and policy advocacy, the organization works to protect vulnerable children from exploitation and ensure their rights are upheld. In regions where poverty drives families to desperate decisions, UNITED SIKHS intervenes with programs that support at-risk youth, improve access to education, and empower communities with tools for economic resilience.
This year’s theme, “Progress is clear, but there’s more to do: let’s speed up efforts!”, acknowledges the strides made in reducing child labor while urging the global community to intensify action. It also marks a key milestone: the release of the 2025 global estimates and trends on child labor, which will guide the next phase of international commitment.
Since 2020, approximately 160 million children have been forced into child labor, a staggering 1 in every 10 children worldwide. Despite past progress, children are still trapped in child labor all across the world, with nearly half engaged in hazardous work and many of them lacking access to basic educational opportunities
Beyond immediate aid, UNITED SIKHS champions long-term systemic change. The organization collaborates with civil society coalitions, participates in UN advocacy platforms, and campaigns for stronger implementation of international labor conventions. Our youth engagement workshops and interfaith forums create awareness and promote action among the next generation of leaders. UNITED SIKHS recognizes that protecting children’s rights starts by strengthening entire communities.
As a humanitarian organization rooted in Sikh values of justice, equality, and service, UNITED SIKHS stands in solidarity with global partners to eliminate child labor in all its forms. We believe that no child should be forced to trade their education for exploitation, or their dreams for survival.
If you or someone you know is affected by child abuse and needs support, UNITED SIKHS is here to listen, assist, and protect. Reach out to the UMEED Helpline for guidance and get help in challenging times.
