UNITED SIKHS Reaffirms Commitment on World Refugee Day 2025
Today, UNITED SIKHS joins the global community in observing World Refugee Day, a solemn occasion to honor the courage, resilience, and dignity of millions of people forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, and disaster.
This year’s theme, “Solidarity with Refugees,” is a powerful call to action. It reminds us that standing with refugees means more than offering words – it means listening to their stories, defending their rights, and ensuring they are not left behind.
As a humanitarian organization rooted in Sikh principles, UNITED SIKHS has long been committed to supporting displaced communities. From providing emergency aid in refugee camps to advocating for policy change and legal support, our mission is to ensure that every individual – regardless of status, has the opportunity to live with dignity and hope.
UNITED SIKHS provide life-saving aid to Rohingya People
When conflict erupted in Ukraine, UNITED SIKHS swiftly deployed its Crisis Response Teams to deliver urgent humanitarian aid to those fleeing the devastation. Volunteers entered the war-zone to respond to emergency medical requests.
At the Polish-Ukrainian border, UNITED SIKHS established a heated tent that became a haven for refugees, offering beds, blankets, toys, and essential supplies. A food truck stationed at the base camp provided 5,000 to 6,500 hot meals and snacks daily, ensuring that displaced families had nourishment and comfort.
UNITED SIKHS made sure that life-saving relief kits are distributed including hygiene supplies for women, dental care, children’s necessities, clothing, and more. In recognizing the risks faced by vulnerable populations in such crises, the organization implemented enhanced security measures and strict protocols to help prevent human trafficking attempts.
According to UNHCR’s annual Global Trends Report released in June 12, 2025, there were 122.1 million forcibly displaced people by the end of April 2025, up from 120 million at the same time last year, representing around a decade of year-on-year increases in the number of refugees and others forced to flee their homes. The main drivers of displacement remain large conflicts like Sudan, Myanmar and Ukraine, and the continued failure to stop the fighting.
Among the victims are children deprived of education, women facing heightened risks, and families navigating life in unfamiliar lands. Yet, despite these challenges, refugees continue to contribute meaningfully to the societies that welcome them – as workers, students, artists, and leaders.
On this day, we reaffirm our commitment to:
- Advocate for inclusive policies that protect the rights of refugees.
- Support access to healthcare, education, and legal aid.
- Amplify refugee voices and preserve their stories.
- Collaborate with global partners to find sustainable solutions.
Refugees are not defined by their displacement, they are not just statistics. Refugees are our neighbors, our friends, and our fellow human beings. They are individuals with dreams, talents, and potential to enrich the societies they become part of. Today, and every day, we stand with them in compassion and action..
