UNITED SIKHS Amplifies Truckers’ Voices Amid Immigration Enforcement
New York City, N.Y. | September 30, 2026
UNITED SIKHS continues to stand at the forefront of defending the rights of America’s truckers, through its legal advocacy, policy engagement, and direct support for drivers, particularly those from immigrant and minority communities who face mounting adversities. From challenging arbitrary CDL cancellations and fighting for due process to working directly with affected drivers, government agencies, and civil-rights partners, UNITED SIKHS has taken action to protect the livelihoods, dignity, and equal treatment of Sikh and immigrant truck drivers across the United States.
Through its UMEED Helpline, meaning “hope” in Punjabi, UNITED SIKHS has provided a lifeline to thousands of drivers impacted by increased immigration enforcement. Since November 2025, nearly 5,000 truckers, bus drivers have reached out for assistance, sharing stories of hardship, fear and resolve to move forward.
Bhupinder Kaur, Director of Operations at UNITED SIKHS and UMEED Helpline Manager, described the overwhelming response: “We were inundated. One driver told us he lost his license the same day his mother passed away. He couldn’t say goodbye, and now he struggles to provide for his family.” These deeply human stories underscore the urgent need for systemic change and compassionate solutions.

UNITED SIKHS has brought truckers’ concerns to national attention. The organization has engaged policymakers and the media to highlight the disproportionate impact of enforcement actions on immigrant drivers, many of whom are Punjabi Sikhs. By amplifying these voices, UNITED SIKHS ensures that the struggles of truckers are not ignored.
Beyond the Helpline: Defending Rights, Amplifying Voices
UNITED SIKHS has carried truckers’ concerns into broader public conversations, bringing their experiences directly into national forums. The organization has worked with the media to expose the disproportionate impact of enforcement sweeps on immigrant and minority communities. It has also mobilized community voices through rallies and digital campaigns, ensuring that truckers’ struggles resonate in both legislative halls and civic spaces.

Equally important, UNITED SIKHS has showcased the resilience of truckers through powerful storytelling. By sharing their experiences in public forums and advocacy platforms, the organization underscores that defending truckers’ rights is inseparable from defending civil liberties. These stories remind drivers that they are not alone – their voices form part of a broader movement for justice.
