A Shelter, A Home, A Future: UNITED SIKHS Strengthens Recovery Efforts in Nepal
Bidur, Nepal | October 28, 2026
UNITED SIKHS continues its commitment to supporting families affected by the devastating flash floods in Nepal, moving from emergency food assistance to helping survivors rebuild safe and dignified shelter.
As part of its ongoing rehabilitation efforts, UNITED SIKHS has now completed flooring support for 135 temporary shelter homes in the Bidur area, benefiting families displaced from Rasuwa. Over the past days, the organization delivered a total of 402 bags of cement, alongside 10 truckloads of crushed stone and 4 truckloads of sand, ensuring that every family has a solid foundation beneath their temporary homes.

With many survivors continuing to live in temporary conditions and colder weather approaching, UNITED SIKHS is appealing for public support to sustain and expand its relief and rehabilitation efforts. Donations will help provide shelter materials, winter essentials, and other critical assistance for vulnerable families working to rebuild their lives. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps restore safety, dignity, and hope to those affected by the floods.
The urgency of the need and the determination of the community were evident as residents began using the first 150 bags of cement immediately after delivery. An additional 250 bags followed, completing the flooring work for all 135 families.
Beyond providing materials, UNITED SIKHS volunteers have been working closely with local communities to verify family records and conduct documentation, ensuring that no affected family is overlooked during the relief and recovery process.

Despite the immense hardships they continue to face, survivors displayed remarkable resilience and generosity. Volunteers were deeply moved by the gratitude expressed by community members, many of whom warmly welcomed and even offered food to those assisting in the recovery efforts.

At a second relief site, UNITED SIKHS distributed zinc roofing sheets (locally known as jasta) to 75 families, providing each family with four sheets to begin constructing their shelters. To help residents stay warm as colder temperatures approach, the organization also distributed thermal bottles to 180 families.
These efforts mark an important transition in UNITED SIKHS’ Nepal response, from meeting immediate humanitarian needs to helping families restore stability, safety, and dignity. While significant challenges remain, the progress made reflects both the urgency of the intervention and the commitment of affected communities to rebuild stronger together.

UNITED SIKHS remains dedicated to standing alongside Nepal’s flood-affected families throughout their recovery journey, ensuring that those who have lost so much are not left behind.
