Building Bridges For Inter-Faith Understanding and Tolerance
Brampton, ON
UNITED SIKHS Canada team hosted a tour around Gurdwara Sikh Sangat in Regan, for the Ahmadi Community of Brampton West on October 29. The aim of the tour was to facilitate understanding of each other’s faiths with the message of “love for all and hatred for none.”
Bhai Jugraj Singh apprised the community members with the tenets of Sikhism, Sikh Gurus, information about Guru Granth Sahib ji and more.
The community members shared with us their beliefs, founders of their faith, their teachings, about Gurdwaras and how we pray. They also partook in the langar.
“Knowing and understanding in more detail about Sikhism is an insightful experience. We are grateful for the hospitality and we would like to visit again. I would request more members of our community to visit and gain understanding about Sikhism,” said Mr. Muzaffar Ahmed Mansoor of Bramton West Ahmadiya Muslim Jamat.
Prior to this, UNITED SIKHS team had also been invited to Masjid Mubarak in Brampton, where our team visited and interacted with.
Speaking about the importance and aim of such visits, UNITED SIKHS Canada Director Sukhwinder Singh stated, “We believe that by coming together, we can create a world where love, compassion and understanding thrive, transcending all barriers of faith, culture and background. It is this shared vision of unity and collaboration that drives us to reach out and build bridges with communities.Teachings of Guru Nanak Sahib Ji, always propel us on our mission to champion the principles of equality, service, selflessness.”
“It was great to interact with the members of the Muslim community. Knowing about one another’s faiths is the only way to increase understanding and tolerance, to end skepticism and ignorance that lead to hostilities and conflicts. Understanding other faiths and facilitating communication, identifying the common ground of humanity, is the single most important factor to end mistrust and bring peace in the world,” said Gurbir Singh, Director of Operations at UNITED SIKHS Canada.
We extend a special thanks to our volunteer Karanvir Singh. Other than the presence of Mr. Mansoor, we appreciated the visits of Imam Umar Khan, Imam Ali Raza, President of Ahmadiyya Brampton West Abdul Jabar Zafar, and other esteemed members of the Muslim community.
