Aiming for Community Wellbeing in Collaborative Efforts with Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) Bureau

Brampton, ON

UNITED SIKHS Canada team convened a highly productive meeting with the Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) Bureau recently. The meeting, an outcome of strategic discussions with South Asian Community Engagement (SACE), emphasized on the shared commitment to address critical issues affecting the community.

Our team engaged in a comprehensive dialogue with key members of the CSWB team. The discussion centered on identifying ways to channel resources to the community, with a specific focus on mental health, crime prevention, and community safety workshops.

Our initiatives in Canada including the UMEED Helpline, vital mental health support, Legal Aid counseling, empowering community members with legal guidance, and Know Your Rights programs are fostering a sense of empowerment within the community, by educating individuals on their rights and responsibilities.

The meetings were focused on making resources available to the community for improving mental health, crime prevention, community safety programs and workshops, and more.

The meeting saw the participation of various specialized units within the CSWB, including the Divisional Mobilization Unit (DMU), Crisis Outreach and Support Teams (focusing on mental health and addiction-related crisis response), and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Unit. This collaborative effort aims to establish and strengthen community engagement, ensuring that the diverse needs of the community are met comprehensively.

Gurbir Singh, Director of Operations and Development, stated, “UNITED SIKHS looks forward to continued collaboration with the Peel Regional Police’s CSWB Bureau to implement these initiatives for fostering a safer and more resilient community.”
