Second Lieutenant Anmol Kaur Narang

Over the centuries, Sikhs have fought in many major conflicts around the world. Tens of thousands laid down their lives serving alongside the Allies in World War I and World War II.  Sikhs have continued the call of duty, service and contribute to various operations on a global level.

Second Lt. Narang is a second-generation immigrant born and raised in Roswell, Georgia

Hardened through the many difficult battles and trails and tribulations, Sikhs continue to fight and show perseverance in every facet of daily life. This continuous struggle has won recognition and allowed them to solidify themselves and be an integral fabric in their communities.

This process of transformation has inspired many young Sikhs to follow their passion of serving their country.

Anmol Kaur Narang who joins a few Sikh male graduates of West Point,  is one such example sure to inspire scores of others to follow in her footsteps.

“We would like to congratulate Second Lieutenant Anmol Narang for creating history by becoming the first observant Sikh to graduate from the US Military Academy at West Point. Her efforts to keep her identity and represent her religion and community will surely be an inspiration to many!!” said Pavan Kaur, Managing Staff Attorney, UNITED SIKHS

The young, bright top notch Second Lieutenant has shown great resolve during her time at West Point.  As the only Sikh cadet, she had no other Sikh American to turn to – relying on family, community support and the teachings of Sikhi. This is amazing to see hard work, dedication and perseverance pave its own path forward. The Sikh Sangat is very proud and provides best wishes for her tremendous success” quoted Jasmit Singh, Advocacy Director, UNITED SIKHS.

A Sikh woman is powerful, determined and tenacious. When she excels as Anmol Kaur has, she is the lioness who not only hunts for the world but also cares for it,” said Mejindarpal Kaur, International Legal Advocacy Director, UNITED SIKHS.

After years of forcing Sikhs to renounce their Sikh identity, we are hopeful that the new awakening towards wider representation of diversity will encourage the armed forces to foster inclusivity in the years and for generations to come.

If you also have the desire to give back to the community or wish to serve your country please email: law-usa@unitedsikhs.org and our support team will assist and guide you in the many wonderful career opportunities available within the Army and other branches of the military.
