Dear Compassionate Supporter,

As we transition to the next phase of our humanitarian relief efforts to flood victims in Panjab to rebuild their lives, support from kind-hearted people has started pouring in.

A group of parents at a Chandigarh school came in support and have adopted four families in Phoos Mandi village at Sardulgarh in Mansa as long as they need support. They are pitching support for each of the four families of farmers who have suffered crop loss. “We are supporting the families that were genuinely in need. We would support them in this incredibly tough time,” one of the parents at the school said.

“We appeal to everyone – individuals, organizations and institutions to come together to support such families. If you can get even one family through this time, you are preventing them from huge suffering. Please come forward to save these families and save the future of Panjab, the young children,” said Gurvinder Singh, UNITED SIKHS International Humanitarian Aid Director.

As a heartbreaking glimpse of the condition of hundreds of families, the humble dwelling of this family couldn’t survive floodwaters

Our teams are constantly assisting farmers to get back on their feet by:

  • Assisting farmers in pumping out flood water from their fields. “We have already suffered a huge economic loss as our crops have been destroyed. Now bearing the cost of removal of water from floods is next to impossible,” said Sarpanch Singh, after our teams delivered 200 litres of diesel for Sardulgarh area villages.
  • Our teams have been providing medicines and aid at the sites of bandh breaches. “No aid has been reaching us here. We are grateful UNITED SIKHS not only brought medical aid, but also provided us with 200 liters of diesel,” one of the farmers engaged in plugging the bandh in Ahli Kalan village in Sultanpur Lodhi said.

Farmlands in several villages remain inundated, even as you read this

The devastation caused by Ghaggar in Mansa is staggering, says UNITED SIKHS volunteer Baljeet Singh. We have brought daily essentials, ration supplies, water bottles along with medicines here. Fields are still inundated. Conditions are extremely difficult for families that have to deal with floods for so long,” he said.

Our volunteers are continuing fogging to prevent growth of mosquitoes for curbing the rise of dengue, chikungunya, etc across different locations across the affected regions.

Amritpal Singh, Director of UNITED SIKHS, dispatched additional humanitarian aid and medical supplies from our satellite center in Ludhiana, accentuating our proactive approach in addressing the evolving needs of the flood-affected communities. As we transition into the second phase of our activities, encompassing livelihood restoration, repairs, and support for families, our first-phase initiatives remain steadfast in areas where floodwater continues to disrupt lives.

Our teams have expanded their reach to encompass more districts, including Sangrur and Kapurthala, in addition to our extensive outreach in Rupnagar, Patiala, Mansa, Sri Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Nawashahr. Our relief efforts encompass a wide spectrum, from providing medical aid and daily essentials to distributing tents, mosquito nets, hygiene products, and even cattle fodder.

To date, our efforts have spanned over 520 flood-affected locations across 11 districts, benefiting more than 120,000 individuals with medical assistance and aiding over 40,000 individuals with ration and essential supplies. Fogging initiatives are being conducted in multiple locations to safeguard public health.

Our commitment to the affected families is unshaken as we continue to respond to the flood situation across different locations.

We are now receiving requests for our third phase, aimed at facilitating self-employment opportunities for families through our ongoing ‘Project Kirti.’ We are actively identifying and supporting such families in their pursuit of self-sufficiency.

We are counting on the compassionate souls like YOU, who feel the pain Panjab is having to endure. Please step forward to hold the hand of the families in need.
