Milwaukee, Wisconsin: “I lost my only support when I lost my husband. We keep remembering him and crying all day. I do not know how I will live the rest of my life”, these are the touching words of the wife of Seeta Singh, a Sikh who lost his life on August 5th, 2012  in the fatal shooting in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. His family was everything for him.

These anguish filled words mobilized the UNITED SIKHS team to visit their families in India and give them immediate monetary aid to help with their daily expenses. Rs 50,000 each has been given to the families of Bhai Seeta Singh, Bhai Ranjit Singh and Sardar Punjab Singh.

In an attempt to keep this as an ongoing effort, UNITED SIKHS has established a Hate Crime Victims Fund. The funds collected here will be dispersed for the immediate needs of the affected families and for resources to eradicate Hate Crime. SEETA SINGH:  UNITED SIKHS’ team met Seeta Singh’s family members at his home in Chand Nagar, New Delhi. Seeta Singh was one of the Kirtanias (preachers) who was killed on Aug 5th at the Wisconsin Gurdwara along with 6 others. A check of Rs 50,000 was given in Surinder Kaurs name, wife of Seeta Singh by Daljit Singh, Director of UNITED SIKHS India. Seeta Singh is survived by his wife Surinder Kaur and four children, Sarabjit Kaur -19 years, Harmit Singh- 18 years, Kamaljit Kaur -10 years and Jasbir Singh – 8 years.

As per Rajinder Kaur, sister-in-law of Seeta Singh, “Seeta ji was not only a preacher but an activist. My children were also trained by him in Gurbani and Kirtan and he was instrumental towards their spiritual growth. My children’s education was also funded by him.”  Two hours before he was shot, he spoke to his wife and children and said that he would call again after the service was over at Gurdwara Saheb in Wisconsin. But fate had it otherwise, as Seeta Singh will never be able to make that call!

PUNJAB SINGH: Punjab Singh, another victim of the tragedy, is battling between life and death in Milwaukee. His wife, Kulwant Kaur, is waiting to get a visa. A check of Rs 50,000 was given to Kulwant Kaur. She stated, “May Waheguru save his life and I ask all of you to pray for him. We need immediate help, I have to reach the United States to see my husband.” UNITED SIKHS has reached out to the US Consulate in India to assist in this matter.

RANJIT SINGH: Lokinder Kaur, wife of shaheed Ranjit Singh, elder brother of Seeta Singh was also given a cheque of Rs 50,000 in India. It was received by Nitin Rajput, the son-in-law of Ranjit Singh. As per the information provided by son-in-law, Ranjit Singh’s wife’s name is Lokinder Kaur. They have one son and two daughters – Gurvinder Singh (Golu) – 14 year old who is studying in ninth standard in Vikas Puri, New Delhi; Rajvinder Kaur (Rajji) – 22 year daughter & is married; Jaspreet Kaur (Preeti) married to Nitin Rajput.  Ranjit Singh was the Granthi at the Gurdwara Saheb in Wisconsin. The family members are in shock due to the happenings at Wisconsin Gurudwara. The last telephonic conversation was held a day before the incident in which they had a routine talk regarding health and when he intended to return to India.

The UNITED SIKHS team constituted of volunteers Harpreet Singh, Charanjit  Singh, Avtar Singh, Daljit Singh and Daljeet Singh. All the families are in dire need of support and immediate monetary assistance is required.
