Serving Oxygen & Cremating The Lost Loved Ones

Dear Supporters,

29/04/2021

India is facing a lethal second surge of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the daily number of cases and deaths have sky rocketted, oxygen in the air we take for granted has become a precious and scarcely available commodity. The places we all seek need in times of medical emergencies, hospitals across the capital of Delhi and other major cities are almost out of oxygen and some have completely run out of oxygen.

In this unfolding tragedy many in independent volunteers, Gurudwaras (Sikh houses of worship) and nonprofit organizations have stepped up to serve their fellow neighbours.

UNITED SIKHS teams as part of our year long COVID-19 global relief efforts are on the ground to serve the urgent life saving needs of the people of India.

Sewa In Delhi

We have supplied oxygen to urgently needed locations in Delhi via 50kg cylinders that serve the needs of multiple patients.

Over 400 personal emergency oxi cans are being utilized in critical life saving moments until comprehensive help is available.

We are adding a series of oxygen concentrators (light for personal use and heavy duty machines for multiple patients) to our relief efforts during this week.

As our teams work on saving lives tragically there are many who have breathed their last. We are making sure the last rites for these lost lives, are performed with dignity. Three large trucks full of wood (27 tons) for cremation have made their way from Punjab to Delhi.

Our brave volunteers have cremated 325 victims of the pandemic using our mobile crematory van service. The count keeps going up by 12-15 per day.

Sewa In Punjab

Two emergency centres awaiting government approval are being set up in Chandigarh and Ludhiana in the coming days. We have already sourced 55 – 50kg cylinders along with other medical kits.

At the request of a local hospital in Chandigarh, a blood camp on the 400th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur ji is being hosted along with emergency oxygen supplies for those in urgent need.

Provisions for emergency ambulance services like in Delhi are being made in anticipation of the pandemic surging to states north of Delhi.

We are eternally grateful to our courageous teams and volunteers who are tirelessly serving the needs of their fellow citizens with utmost compassion and care 24/7.
