It has been our privilege to help with the relocation of Afghan Minority families escaping terrorist violence in the North-West Frontier Province to safety in Delhi, India. Many have lost family members. Others arrived in India with bomb shrapnel still in their bodies. Our volunteer teams are working day and night to ease this transition with the hope these families will have a safe, healthy and wellness filled future.

2.5 Year Old survives Violence and Pneumonia

ManSimran Singh is two and a half years old who arrived from Afghanistan escaping violence against minorities on September 3rd, 2020 and was critically ill by September 7th. He was admitted to a government hospital, where doctors informed the parents that his condition was quite serious and that he immediately needed a ventilator and an ICU facility, which they refused to provide until they got the negative report of COVID-19. UNITED SIKHS received a call from Sardar Sorbir Singh of Ghazani requesting us to help with medical life saving intervention. Our India team immediately sprang into action and took the decision to shift the child to one of the best hospitals. ManSimran was shifted on September 8th at around 11.30 p.m to Manipal Hospital, where he was diagnosed with severe Pneumonia.
We are pleased to report that ManSimran came out of this life threatening situation after 12 days of hospitalization.
With our donors’ support totaling over Rs 800,000.00 ($10,800.00) ManSimran spent two months in the hospital making a full recovery.

24/7 Afghan Helpdesk for Refugees

UNITED SIKHS India Team has established a 24/7 Helpdesk service (+91 98107 90373) for displaced Afghanistan minority communities (Hindus and Sikhs). To date a total of 75 families have reached New Delhi, India from the different parts of Afghanistan and 10 more families are expected to arrive by next week. The first critical and most challenging step is facilitating issuance of Government Identity Cards (Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Driving License, etc.) with the assistance of elected officials in Delhi. We are then able to offer the following services.

• Medical Treatment including special Tests (e.g. MRI, Ultrasound, etc.)
• Urgent assistance with the needs of pregnant mothers in government hospitals and life sustaining needs of newborn babies
• Facilitation for UNHCR related issues (issuance of Refugee Card, renewal of the cards for previously Afghan nationals residing in New Delhi)
• Ration distribution to the needy Afghan Families
• COVID-19 Rapid and RTPC Tests
• Assistance in resettlement of Afghan Families in India

Cost for providing Safe Haven and Home

UNITED SIKHS is sponsoring 10 families by offering Rs 15,000 ($202.00) per month for one year and providing one time Rs 70,000 ($944.00) per family for the following household items: Refrigerator, Washing Machine, Water Filter, Water Heater, Bedding items, Utensils and Cooktop with Cylinder.
Maintaining the Afghan Helpdesk which supports all the refugee families incurs a monthly cost of $470.
As we help with creating a safe space for these families in India, law firms and immigration consultants have been hired in Canada and United States to advocate for immigration pathways into these nations for a permanent safe and healthy future for these families.

The emergency aid, humanitarian relief, legal assistance plus immigration costs alone for making this future possible stand to date at $113,500.
