Sikhs volunteers with UNITED SIKHS are proud of their Sikh heritage and embrace the idea that humanity is one. We all endeavor to express this ideal through service to others.  At UNITED SIKHS we strive everyday to bring hope and humanitarian aid to all communities in need.  We strive to bring water in times of drought, hope in times of disaster, refuge in times of war, food where there’s famine and education where jobs and skills are needed.

Juneteenth represents a triumph for all humanity.  On this June 19th we commemorate the end of the enslavement of our brothers and sisters in the United States with the passage of the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863 and the subsequent liberation in Galveston, Texas of all enslaved people by federal troops who declared two years later, on that day, that all slaves would be henceforth free.

As a nation today we continue to grapple with violence and challenges presented by perceived differences based on gender, ability, nationality and skin color.  We hope this day and everyday to rise above these differences and to celebrate the good that makes us all exceptional.

However you choose to celebrate your humanity, whether by calling a neighbour in need, being kind to a stranger, giving to your favourite charity, or agreeing to volunteer on a community board, we hope you’ll take the time to celebrate by GIVING this Happy Juneteenth Day!

UNITED SIKHS joins in the second Juneteenth National Independence Day celebrations and pledges to continue its mission to empower and aid those in need and to advocate for justice for everyone.
