UNITED SIKHS FEEDS OVER 1 MILLION DURING COVID-19 CRISIS

Global NGO stands out as humanitarian force

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, (APRIL 13, 2020) – UNITED SIKHS, a United Nations affiliated international non-profit, humanitarian relief, human development and advocacy organization, has had boots on the ground providing support and supplies to families in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

UNITED SIKHS has stepped up with Emergency Aid Teams to feed families in need from all corners of the globe. From India, United Kingdom, Malaysia, Australia, United States, Canada and more. In total, UNITED SIKHS has fed over 1 million individuals in need.

“As soon as COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic, UNITED SIKHS immediately began working with authorities to provide as much support as possible.” reported UNITED SIKHS, International Humanitarian Aid Director, Gurvinder Singh.

In the United States, UNITED SIKHS has provided support in California, Washington, Utah, Maryland and was tapped by New York’s Office of Emergency Management to prepare and serve 30,000 meals to New Yorkers at the start of the New York State on Pause Executive Order that led to the eventual New York City quarantine. In Seattle, one of the first Coronavirus hot zones, UNITED SIKHS activated healthcare professionals; testing residents for the virus and providing services to patients first diagnosed. Days later in Houston, Texas families were vocal in their gratitude, sharing that without groceries provided by UNITED SIKHS, they would go hungry.

In Europe, similar sentiments were heard when food and basic needs were distributed in the United Kingdom. Over 100 loaves of bread along with other essentials were delivered at Russell’s Hall Hospital, with the message of, “Stay safe and stay in.” ( See UNITED SIKHS serve the  NHS in  United Kingdom here. )

The needs of every geographical area are varied, but UNITED SIKHS is uniquely capable to act quickly and provide communities with specific needs. For example, sanitizing is needed in Gurdwaras in India along with providing meals to thousands of migrant workers. While on the other side of the world in Canada, Food Banks were built to provide families and the elderly with groceries and hygienic items.( Read more about our work in HuffPost here.)

“When the general public is asked to stock their shelves for an undetermined amount of time, they overlook a great number of families who cannot afford to do so,” reports UNITED SIKHS Operations Manager, Canadian Chapter, Harpreet Singh. “For those families, UNITED SIKHS is dedicated to making sure they receive the supplies they need.”

Whether building food bank or delivering goods to resident’s doors, UNITED SIKHS will remain in step with our mission. By providing humanitarian action when needed to save lives, alleviate suffering and maintain human dignity during and after disasters caused by natural hazards. The UNITED SIKHS goal is to always prevent and strengthen preparedness for emergency situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
