UNITED SIKHS Stands with Texas CDL Drivers at Governor’s Mansion Rally, and Calls for Fair Policies and Protection of Workers’ Rights

UNITED SIKHS joined community leaders, like FIEL and Texas Civil Rights Project and commercial drivers who lost their commercial driver’s licences (CDL) at a rally today in Texas. The community stands in solidarity with these workers impacted by recent state-level decisions to downgrade their CDL, affecting their livelihoods.
As a signatory to a formal letter delivered to Governor Greg Abbott, UNITED SIKHS and its community partners are urging immediate action to protect workers, uphold economic fairness, and safeguard civil rights.
The letter, representing CDL holders across Texas, highlights urgent concerns about the revocation of licenses, lack of legislative oversight, and harmful rhetoric targeting immigrant workers. These drivers play a critical role in sustaining Texas’ economy, ensuring the delivery of essential goods and supporting families through honest work. “UNITED SIKHS stands firmly with CDL drivers whose rights and livelihoods are at risk,” said Bhupinder Kaur at UNITED SIKHS who led the CDL drivers to meet with legislators alongside FIEL and the Texas Civil Rights Project. “Policies that remove individuals’ ability to work without due process not only harm families but also weaken the economic backbone of our communities.”

Key Demands Raised at the Rally Include:
- * Immediate reinstatement of all affected CDL licenses
- * A halt to sweeping administrative actions taken without legislative debate
- * An end to harmful and inaccurate rhetoric about immigrant workers
UNITED SIKHS emphasized that the recent actions go beyond federal requirements and reflect discretionary state-level decisions that disproportionately impact immigrant and minority communities. The organization called for transparent, accountable policymaking that includes input from affected workers and respects due process.

Today’s rally reflects UNITED SIKHS’ broader national advocacy to protect Sikh civil and human rights, including the right to work with dignity and without discrimination.
