UNITED SIKHS STATEMENT ON INDIA’S DECISION TO WITHHOLD OUR SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS

UNITED SIKHS learned of the recent action taken by Indian authorities to withhold our social media accounts on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook.

UNITED SIKHS is deeply concerned about this as it appears to infringe upon the organization’s right to freedom of expression and association, as guaranteed by both domestic and international law.

As a global nonprofit organization affiliated with the United Nations, UNITED SIKHS is dedicated to promoting humanitarian relief, social justice and civil rights. With over 1.5 million followers on Facebook and 34k on X (formery twitter), we rely heavily on social media platforms to disseminate information, engage with supporters, and raise awareness about important issues affecting those whose lives depend on our humanitarian missions.

The decision to suspend UNITED SIKHS’ social media accounts raises serious legal questions about due process and procedural fairness. Lack of transparency surrounding the reasons for this action further compounds our concerns and undermines our ability to effectively carry out our international humanitarian missions.

UNITED SIKHS’ legal team is currently working to contact relevant entities in India to restore our social media accounts. We are also seeking clarification from relevant departments at Facebook and X. we will continue to inform our Sikhs community as we progress in our endeavor. We are committed to pursuing this matter constructively to restore our accounts online.

Sincerely,

UNITED SIKHS Legal Team
