Support UNITED SIKHS: Sutlej River Rehabilitation
For years, flooding along the Sutlej River has devastated villages, farmland, and livelihoods. Based on past results of loss of life, crops, cattle and families losing out on their ecosystem of survival have lead the farmers to suicide. UNITED SIKHS worked in 2023 and 2025 in support of farmers impacted by floods by working in a tiered structure. Our teams didn’t want this to happen again in 2026 again, which led the teams to work with local engineers, professors at agriculture university, retired director of engineering at the Bhakra Nangal Dam, and the UNITED SIKHS engineering team. This resulted in the creation of 18+ stone walls (aka Nochas) and revetments with sandbags between them for firming the walls using cemented sandbags combined with sand. UNITED SIKHS has launched one of its largest mobilizations in India in over a decade – constructing protective embankments, strengthening riverbanks, and safeguarding vulnerable communities against future flooding.

The monsoon season has already begun. These embankments and nochas (stone pillars reinforced with cement and sand) will save lives across more than 40–50 villages, protect crops that fund children’s education, and shield over 25,000 people – including the city of Ferozepur – from recurring devastation. Without this intervention, floods will continue to strike, as they did in 2023 and 2025. This initiative is not just disaster relief. It is long‑term rehabilitation: rebuilding resilience, restoring dignity, and protecting thousands of families for generations to come.
