UNITED SIKHS’ Advisory: PREPARING FOR HURRICANE HERMINE
Posted in Sikh AID
UNITED SIKHS continues to monitor the track and potential impact Tropical Storm Hermine will have on our area tomorrow and through next week. It is expected to produce a dangerous storm surge with life threatening coastal flooding and strong winds near the Delaware and New Jersey coasts over the Labor Day weekend.
NYC Emergency Management and HRO have announced that homes adjacent to “Build it Back” sites with homes elevated on cribbing, but NOT complete – should relocate for #Hermine.
This storm carries the potential for coastal flooding; please review the following guidelines if you are in an area prone to flood conditions:
Safety Guidelines for Floods:If rising water threatens-or if you evacuate-turn off your power at the circuit breaker panel or fuse box.Electric current passes easily through water. Stay away from downed power lines and electrical wires. Don’t drive over-and don’t stand near-downed power lines.Downed lines will be hard to see in the rain and can potentially be hidden in standing water. If you encounter large pools of standing water, stop, back up and choose another pathKnow where to go. If you are ordered to evacuate, know the local hurricane evacuation route(s) to take and have a plan for where you can stay.Contact your local emergency management agency for more information.Create a disaster supply kit, including a flashlight, batteries, cash, first aid supplies, and copies of your critical information if you need to evacuate. If you are not in an area that is advised to evacuate and you decide to stay in your home, plan for adequate supplies in case you lose power and water for several days and you are not able to leave due to flooding or blocked roads.Make a family emergency communication plan.Subscribe to an alerting alerting system via a text or email system. To find out what alerts are available in your area, search the Internet with your town, city, or county name and the word “alerts.” You can also join our alerting system by emailing your mobile phone number to us. We will add you to our text alerts and email alerts.
