UNITED SIKHS Raises Alarm Over Escalating Humanitarian Crisis in South Lebanon as Families Struggle to Rebuild

South Lebanon โ€“ UNITED SIKHS is calling for urgent international attention and humanitarian support following a recent field assessment in South Lebanon, where communities already recovering from months of conflict are facing renewed insecurity, displacement, and hardship.

Through its field team mission to Srifa, UNITED SIKHS met with local authorities, community members, and displaced families to document urgent humanitarian needs and identify priorities for assistance. The findings reveal that while many families have returned to their areas of origin, recovery remains fragile and communities continue to face significant challenges.

Escalating Violence Deepens Humanitarian Concerns

Recent military escalation in South Lebanon has resulted in civilian casualties, increased fear among residents, and further damage to homes and public infrastructure. Communities attempting to return and rebuild their lives are once again confronted with uncertainty and insecurity.

Families who have already endured displacement are being forced to navigate renewed threats while trying to restore a sense of normalcy. The resilience of these communities is remarkable, but the humanitarian needs remain immense.

Following assessments in Srifa, UNITED SIKHS identified critical humanitarian concerns affecting returning and displaced communities. Extensive damage to homes, roads, water networks, and electricity infrastructure has left many families living in unsafe conditions and struggling to access basic services. Women and girls face heightened protection risks, economic hardship, limited healthcare access, and inadequate privacy and safety in damaged homes.

Education remains a major concern, with hundreds of schools damaged and more than 100,000 children at risk of missing schooling without urgent rehabilitation and support. Despite large-scale returns, many families continue to face displacement-related challenges, including unsafe housing, limited services, and fragile livelihood opportunities.

In response, UNITED SIKHS is prioritizing support for shelter, food security, healthcare, education, protection of women and girls, infrastructure restoration, livelihood recovery, and psychosocial assistance to help communities rebuild safely and sustainably.
